Solved!Amongst the many reems of info I've perused I came across a registry edit for enabling email notifications with exchange servers that didn't require authentication.

IIS SMTP Server Setup. Open up the Control Panel and click 'Programs,' or 'Programs and Features' if you're in the Classic view. Click 'Turn Windows Features On or Off,' which is located in the left pane if you're in Classic view. Click 'Allow' if you get any security warnings.
