Just completed a 4-man tactician game with a spearman that went warfare/polymorph and a few points here and there for utility. It's viable, but basically felt just like a lesser version of the standard 2h STR warfare build. It does comparable damage to the STR version but is a lot squishier at close range, so I had to take special care to keep it alive. A lot of times I have to keep him out of the action initially and just use spider webs at range to help cc first. For finesse-based tentacle lash, it becomes a slightly less damage normal attack with greater range and cc. It's still worth the trade off, but not as strong as the strength version where it's just better off in every way.I didn't use bull-rush at all, it is pretty pointless.
Battering ram seems better.Every other polymorph skill doesn't scale with stats so its fine. I am currently running a more supporting spear build with sparkling swings, firebrand, and venomous coating.

The idea is to get into position to hit as many enemies with attacks opprotunity, and allies/summons with the auras. Maxing finesse and pyro because none of the weapon buffs scale off INT, but 2 scale off pyro. I am not sure if maxing geo or warfare is better second.
Divinity Original Sin 2 Spear Finesse Or Strength
I am running stench to get more attacks of opprotunity off.Having everyone in the party with a summon is very strong, all the auras make the summons attacks hurt, even with no investment in summoning. Also chloroform is pretty good because you deal a lot of magic damage and it scales off finesse. All warfare skills scale off weapon damage, so all skills should be usabe, no matter if you play spears, staves or swords.it should have the same weaknesses of a sword warrior, maybe a little bit less damage (I don't know how spears compare to swords but must not be too wide margin) but in general should play the same. There are a few disadvantages without clear advantages, like less carry capacity, some poly skills doing less like tentacle lash etc. There might be a tactical niche of finesse stacking that would be switching between a bow and a spear in battle, I guess vs evasion aura enemies or projectile deflecting, or after breaking armour using the ton of knock down spells that warfare gets. I'm currently doing spears for my hybrid Caster/dmg dealer. My mainstat mostly int with some Fin but for my skills I get enough to use spells I want and then pump the rest into warfare.
Divinity Original Sin 2 Spear Of Braccus Rex
So the bulk of my physical damage is coming from Necro spells (int + warfare scaling) + I have great Geo/Pyro spells I can use due to mainly stacking int.Poly only has like 2 dmg spells right? Flay Skin you don't need until late into the game, and to be frank, the base damage is awful on it anyway. Tentacle Slash is nice but my necro spells out damage it. Spear works about as well as the normal 2handed build, spears have a very nice opportunity range and whirlwind hits half the screen.
Poly also adds with positioning and becoming an even bigger roadblock with spider legs for example.I dipped mine in a bit of necromancer and geo and it worked out quite well. I mostly used her as a roadblock that either melee enemies would have to attack, or walk past and face AoO from.I would have made the argument that spears suit hybrid parties or a party where the most of the damage will be magical, but then again you lack the str to make medus head and flay skin scale well later on. You do have an excuse to pick up chloroform though.
